How Baahubali Became a Movie Legend
You know that feeling when a movie just blows you away? That’s Baahubali for meand also may be for every movie lover. I’ve seen tons of films from all over the world, but S.S. Rajamouli’s epic is something special. It’s a massive two-part story, with The Beginning released in 2015 and The Conclusion released in 2017. But it’s more than just a movie; it’s an incredible mix of old myths, amazing action, and stunning visuals that got everyone talking about Indian films even after all these years have passed.
It started as a big idea in the Telugu film world and became a huge hit all across India, and was loved by the world. It showed that a great story with awesome visuals can be loved by everyone, no matter the language. The director, S.S. Rajamouli, is famous for telling huge stories, and this one feels like a classic Indian tale about destiny and heroes. And he truly can show the hero larger than life with great visuals. Think Lord of the Rings mixed with Game of Thrones, but set in a magical Indian kingdom. A combined version of the films, called Baahubali: The Epic, is even set to be released on October 31, 2025.
The Unforgettable Story of Mahishmati
The whole story happens in a make-believe kingdom called Mahishmati. After hearing the name of this kingdom, it sounds like a big and relatable kingdom for all the movie lovers. The first movie introduces us to a guy named Sivudu (played by Prabhas), who grows up in a small village. After that, He’s drawn to a huge mountain and ends up discovering his connection to a royal family, a queen in chains named Devasena (played by Anushka Shetty), and a cruel king, Bhallaladeva (played by Rana Daggubati).
The second movie finally answers the huge question everyone had from the first film: Why did Kattappa, a loyal warrior, betray Baahubali?. It’s a story full of revenge and romance, leading to some of the most epic battles you’ll ever see. The story itself is pretty straightforward, but the way it’s told is just so exciting and memorable.
A Cast That Shined
Prabhas, the main actor, is the heart of the movie. He plays two different roles and is fantastic in both, and is loved by most movie lovers. Rana Daggubati is perfectly menacing as the bad guy, Bhallaladeva.
But the women in this film are the real scene-stealers. Ramya Krishnan plays the powerful queen regent Sivagami and is absolutely captivating. And Anushka Shetty is brilliant as the fierce princess Devasena. Their impact in the movie was very Big.
Amazing Direction and Visuals
The director, Rajamouli, is really the master at building worlds. The movies had huge budgets for their time—₹180 crore for the first part and ₹250 crore for the second part. The team even created a whole new language, called Kiliki, for one of the tribes in the film, you know that right? What a mind-blowing language that was.
The visuals are stunning, from real waterfalls to massive sets. The special effects were a huge deal for Indian movies back then. The battles are wild, with swords clashing and heroes doing incredible stunts. Even if some of the effects look a little old now, they were unbelievable in 2015 even no director could imagine them at that time.
Music That Gives You Chills
This great movie needs great music, and M.M. Keeravani delivered an amazing score. The songs and background music make every scene feel even bigger and more emotional. The song "Saahore Baahubali" became a huge hit, like an anthem for the film. When the visual hits the eyes, then the music hits the heart.
A Record-Breaking Success
Baahubali didn't just win hearts; it broke the box office records.
✅ The first movie made around ₹600-650 crore worldwide.
✅ The second one earned an incredible ₹1,810 crore, the first Indian movie to make over ₹1,000 crore.
It was a hit in other countries too, like the US, China, and Japan. The movies also won lots of awards, including India's National Film Awards. Its biggest legacy is that it started the "pan-Indian" film trend, where movies are made to be hits all over the country, which inspired other blockbusters like KGF and Pushpa. But it all started with Baahubali: The Beginning
Even with all the big Hollywood movies out there, Baahubali is special because it’s so grand and full of heart. If you haven't seen it, you're missing out. Trust me, you’ll be shouting "Jai Mahishmati!" by the end.
